University Work-Study Programs

Queen Mary University of London's work-study programmes adhere to specific regulations regarding the number of hours students are permitted to work while Studying at the degree level.

Job hours allowed

Typically, students with standard Student immigration permission can work up to 20 hours per week during term time, with exceptions for certain programmes with a limit of 10 hours per week. The definition of a 'week' follows the Immigration Rules, starting with a Monday and lasting for seven days. Students must ensure they do not exceed the designated weekly hours to avoid breaching their work conditions. Detailed records of working hours should be maintained, especially for those with irregular schedules or multiple employers.

Exceeding the weekly limit of 10 or 20 hours during term time can result in severe consequences. Immigration authorities take work restrictions seriously and may refuse immigration applications or take removal actions against students who violate these regulations. Additionally, there may be penalties, such as being barred from returning to the UK for a specified period.

Rate of Pay

In the UK, international students can work a maximum of 20 hours per week. Depending on their age, they can earn between ₹534 to ₹1,055 per hour. If students have multiple jobs, their primary employer typically withholds a basic tax of 20% from their wages. They can allocate their allowance against their main source of income and pay basic rate tax on any additional earnings.

Part time job options

Full-time employment is permitted during vacations and work placements integral to your Queen Mary University course. Part-time work is allowed during term time for full-time students. However, students with Student (part-time) immigration permission are prohibited from working during their studies.
